In my case, I use Ko-Fi as my expected primary income stream as it pertains to this community since I have a full time job, I am not reliant on this blog to provide my income. In my case, I use (formerly ) and have been a customer of theirs for a few years. You will also have to create some DNS records to support this.

If you wish to have an email ending in then you will need to have access to an email provider that allows you to configure custom domains.

Purchasing a domain name should be relatively cheap (assuming the one you want is available). As an attempt to uncouple myself from Google services, I moved to Cloudflare and I have grown to like it personally, but use your preferred provider. I use Cloudflare as my registrar but prior to them, I was using Google Domains. Notion and Super both have free tiers that will allow you to get something up an running, but if you want something that looks a little more professional and cleaner, then expect to sink a little money into this venture.

First off, you can technically start this for free without major issues. So there are a few pre-requisites that are required prior to starting this. Think of it as a sort of brain dump of how I am running this site and some of the backend work behind it.

Now I know my site needs a little TLC, however throughout this post I will outline how I have this set up, but will present other options as well. I was already using Notion for my primary personal note taking app and found through that it was possible to host a website via Notion’s sharing feature and a second service called Super.so. I was looking for a minimal effort SaaS solution if I could. I was able to essentially go from idea to ready to go in around 10-12 hours, with a lot of that being messing around and making sure things work the way I want. Here I wanted to go over the process I used to set up this blog and the backend work required to get it running.
